KINdom's limited edition "Destination Pollution" prints are here! Designed and produced to create awareness and inspire conscious living they are made of organic cotton and digitally-printed (low carbon footprint!) with important parody messages which amplify the environmental issues that humanity still has not addressed today.
Thilafushi originally was a lagoon called "Thilafalhu" with a length of 7 km and a width of 200 metres at the shallowest regions. It came into existence following a series of discussions and efforts to resolve Male's - the capital and most populous city of the Maldives - garbage predicament during the early 1990s. The decision to reclaim Thilafalhu as a landfill was made on 5 December 1991.
Environmentalists say that more than 330 tonnes of rubbish is brought to Thilafushi a day most of which comes from Malé. So much is being deposited that the island is growing at a rate of *one square meter per day*. In addition hazardous items taken to the island also include: Asbestos lead batteries & other heavy metals. The toxic components of these waste items pose a significant risk of water contamination.
