While Bamboo socks do deserve their space in any list of ethical and sustainable products, we feel that further clarification of the fibre itself is needed to fully understand what it is you are buying. Bamboo socks, and therefore any other bamboo clothing product, are made from something called viscose which is a man-made cellulose fibre that uses bamboo fibres as a raw material in a chemically intensive process.
There are a number of ways in which companies have tried to make the production process more sustainable such as EcoVero and Tencell/Lyocell where non-toxic chemicals are used, and more than 90% of the chemicals are re-used.

What to look out for when buying bamboo socks
If you are looking to buy bamboo socks, we recommend searching for those brands that specifically state the use of Lyocell/Tencell or EcoVero as these are currently the most sustainable, and least polluting, versions of bamboo viscose currently on the market.
