This is Unfolded is a UK-based fashion brand founded in 2021 by Cally Russell, Jamie Sutherland, and Hilde Frydnes, who previously worked together to help large retailers reduce waste. They launched Unfolded to create a more sustainable and ethical approach to fashion, focusing on producing clothes only after customers place orders, thereby eliminating overproduction and waste. The brand collaborates with its community to design each item, ensuring that production aligns with customer demand. By adopting this model, Unfolded not only offers affordable, high-quality clothing but also uses the savings to pay garment workers higher wages and fund literacy programs for children near their factories in India. Their commitment to sustainability is evident in their use of natural, organic, or recycled fabrics, and they offset carbon emissions from transportation. This approach has led to a return rate of less than 3%, significantly lower than the industry standard of 30%, and has supported over 7,500 children in India to learn to read and write.
